Phase three of Thuntsha Lerole in Ramotshere Moiloa
Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality embarked on a successful Phase 3 of Thuntsha Lerole in ward 15 and 16 which included amongst others; road patching, new connections, fixing of street lights and cleaning of illegal dumping areas. The main aim of the projects is to ensure that service delivery is extended in all the areas within the municipality.
Community Services department cleaned illegal dumping sites at Klip Street, Zeerust Combined and Lehurutshe complex. Grass cutting was also done at Zeerust cemetery and Voortrekker Street. Various streets including Queen Street, Hendrik Potgieter, Forsman street, Joubert street and Pache Street were patched by the municipality together with the Department of Public works and Roads. The speed humps at the local schools were repainted to ensure that the road users are cautious of learners’ safety in the area. Street lights at Hendrik Potgieter, president, Bonanza & Smoke, Joubert & rust, Fontein & rust and church street fixed.
The activities were led by Mayor Dina Pitso; who was accompanied by the Council Speaker; Portia Letshufi, councillors from ward 12,13,15& 16 as well as officials from the municipality and other government departments. When retiring for the day, she thanked the team and indicated that smooth and well-maintained roads are essential for facilitating safe and efficient transportation networks. “Allow me to thank you for leaving your workstations and came to support this government initiative. By prioritizing road infrastructure upkeep, we aim to enhance travel experiences for motorists and pedestrians alike, while also fostering economic development and connectivity within our community. Illegal dumping also poses serious health and environmental hazards, so we request our people to refrain from littering so that we maintain a safer and clean environment at all times. Please spread the message across so that during the next phase we have large numbers that will allow us to cover vast areas”; she said.
The Department of Health, Public Works, Agriculture and Social Development were present. There was a number of places that were identified in ward 16 that really needed intervention and will be addressed in due course. The Health Department conducted screenings, tests, and vaccinations. They also distributed male and female condoms. Social Development engaged with 15 women at Khunotswane with regard to Gender Based Violence (GBV), one on one sessions with learners for behavioral patterns. The activities will be extended to other wards.
